Sacramento’s Claw won’t come for every pile of leaves

Even an address with a collection calendar may fall outside the seasonal service.

Sacramento lists November 2 as the start of seasonal leaf pickup, but a calendar for your address does not guarantee a visit from the Claw. The City’s calendar page warns that some customers do not qualify for the service.

The City’s leaf-season guidance excludes private streets and properties without a curb or gutter. Commercial properties that are not City customers, including apartment buildings, cannot put out piles.

Eligible households should fill their organics container first. That weekly service continues and may arrive sooner; storms can slow the Claw, and projected pickup dates can change daily.

For street piles, the limit is 4 by 4 by 9 feet. Leave access clear of vehicles and containers: an unreachable pile will be skipped. Check the calendar again before counting on a pickup date.
