Pinterest’s beauty searches are becoming strangely specific

Its October report serves up perfume, hair and nail names that could double as a dessert order.

Marshmallow perfume, raspberry-jelly nails and cherry-cola hair: parts of Pinterest’s autumn beauty report read like a dessert order. The company’s October 6 roundup of search activity describes people looking for increasingly particular versions of a style, from textured French bobs to dark-red cat-eye manicures.

Pinterest reports rising interest in marshmallow and milky perfumes, groups nail searches around coffee and fruit, and lists mocha, espresso and copper among hair terms. The recurring detail is the naming: a colour becomes a flavour, and a general look becomes a highly specific prompt.

These are selected observations from Pinterest’s own platform, not a census of what everyone wears or proof of purchases. Their immediate appeal is the vocabulary—a richer set of names for describing the look someone wants to find.
