Girls is heading toward forty. HBO’s October announcement sets a five-episode return for Lena Dunham’s comedy, shifting the focus from the characters’ twenties to another milestone. Dunham returns as creator and star, with Judd Apatow again executive producing.

The announcement schedules production for 2027, a decade on from the season 6 finale.

The returning cast includes Hannah’s performer Dunham and Marnie’s performer Allison Williams. HBO also names Andrew Rannells for Elijah, plus Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna and Jemima Kirke as Jessa.

In that release, Dunham said they had long planned to revisit the series only for a specific story they felt compelled to tell.
