GoldenEye leaves Game Pass as more Rare classics join Essential
The November 15 change affects subscription access, while digital Rare Replay owners have a separate route.

GoldenEye 007 is scheduled to leave Game Pass on November 15, the same day a group of Rare favourites joins the Essential library. For players planning a return to Bond, the important question is how they have access to the game: a subscription and digital ownership are different routes.
What changes on November 15
Xbox’s November catalogue announcement lists GoldenEye’s departure for cloud and console. It does not announce a worldwide delisting or say that owners will lose their copies. The practical deadline concerns players relying on the Game Pass library to reach this version.
The Essential additions include Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Viva Piñata and Viva Piñata: TIP, all listed for cloud and console. These are additions to that particular subscription library; the announcement is not presenting them as newly released games.
Check your Rare Replay ownership
Rare’s own game page still states that owners of a digital copy of Rare Replay can download GoldenEye without a further charge. That provides a concrete check for existing owners before treating the Game Pass exit as the end of their access.
The wording specifically says digital ownership. It does not establish the same entitlement for a physical disc, and it should not be read as a promise that accessing Rare Replay through a subscription is equivalent to owning it. Check which version and entitlement are actually on your account.
Rare Replay is itself a collection drawn from 30 years of Rare games, with bonus challenges and unlockable behind-the-scenes material. GoldenEye’s additional digital-owner entitlement is documented separately on the page. It is that ownership condition, rather than simply recognizing the compilation’s name in a library, that matters here.
Which GoldenEye is leaving?
The Xbox rerelease announcement set January 27, 2023 as its worldwide launch date. It described the 1997 game’s mission-based shooter campaign and local split-screen multiplayer, with alternative controls, achievements and widescreen presentation reaching 4K on supported hardware. Those are the features attached to the Xbox version in this catalogue change.
Nintendo’s separate January 2023 launch announcement described the N64 game in Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and specifically advertised four-player multiplayer both locally and online. That difference matters if the appeal is playing with friends who are not in the room.
The Nintendo announcement is historical context for the versions, not part of Xbox’s November removal notice. Anyone considering another subscription should check its current regional catalogue and membership terms first. Xbox’s deadline tells Game Pass users when their route is changing; it does not settle access on another company’s service.
